Our Story

Let us tell you our lil story.

Thiri and Deven found their shared purpose in California, yet their roots are distinct and deep. Deven was born in Minnesota, but his heritage is a vibrant mix of Lao and Indian, raised on the fiery flavors and rich spices of his family's kitchen. Thiri was born in Burma (Myanmar), steeped in the soulful depth of her country's cuisine, particularly the essential and complex Tea Leaf Salad (Laphet Thoke). They grew up surrounded by street food, spice, and family recipes that told stories long before they could. Their passion for these bold flavors and the stories they told is what ultimately connected them. Deven, driven by the intense, savory heat of Lao skewers, complemented by subtle Indian spices, and Thiri, focused on the textural, earthy balance of her signature Tea Leaf Salad, quickly realized that their contrasting flavors belonged together—and so did they. That connection sparked SZN N SPICE, their food truck that fuses Lao heat, Burmese depth, and a touch of California creativity. It’s food that’s familiar yet new, comforting yet bold—just like them. Today, their best-sellers—the bright, crunchy Tea Leaf Salad, the Lao Smash Burger, and Pulled Pork Buns—bring people together from all walks of life.
